As the update rolls out slowly to more PCs, we’re seeing additional problems, and the latest involves Intel SSDs. The SSD 600p and SSD Pro 6000p are incompatible with the latest version. “When attempting to upgrade to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, select devices with Intel SSD 600p Series or Intel SSD Pro 6000p Series may crash and enter a UEFI screen after reboot,” explained a spokesperson. “Microsoft is working with OEM partners and Intel to identify and block devices with Intel SSD 600p Series or Intel SSD Pro 6000p Series from installing the April 2018 Update due to a known incompatibility that may cause performance and stability issues. Microsoft is currently working on a resolution that will allow the April 2018 Update on these devices in the near future.”
Manual Rollback Required
Affected users will be unable to boot into Windows 10 unless they manually roll back to an earlier version, which is thankfully easy. By pressing F8 during the boot process, you can use Microsoft’s recovery tools to fix your PC. Even so, it’s strange and annoying issue, especially given the fact it wasn’t noticed in Insider builds. Thankfully, the method of cautiously rolling updates to different hardware has mitigated a lot, and there doesn’t seem to be any permanent damage or data loss. Annecdotal reports suggest that performing a fresh install of the update via USB works, but it’s best to this one out for now. You can find more support on the Microsoft Community forums.
