According to the paper’s sources, Samsung has finalized the phone’s plans, with display development to be completed by March, and product to begin from September. That would lead to a ship date in either December or early 2019. It matches statements from the company’s president of mobile, Koh Dong-Jin, who told reporters last year that he’s aiming for a 2018 release.
Galaxy X Display Specs
Other details about the device are sparse, but The Information reports that a 7.3-inch OLED display is likely. It also seems that unlike Microsoft’s foldable, the display itself will bend, rather than being reliant on hinges. As a result, Samsungs device would look a lot more futuristic but could be more prone to damage. Either way, select clients may have seen it already. The Investor claims that Samsung has plans to unveil it in private meetings at CES 2018. That suggests it has a somewhat polished prototype, but one important factor is cost. The Samsung Galaxy X will likely be the most expensive phone the company has ever sold. To maintain a good experience, it’s likely the screen would need to be 4K, as well as implementing a design that makes it foldable without damage. Still, it would be a huge step forward for smartphones, and udoubtedly people will buy it, just like they did the $1000 iPhone X. In the meantime, Microsoft’s Andromeda device could slot into the market as a slightly more affordable but less impressive option.
