Understanding skills is an important part of trying to find a job, and a true assessment of those skills could be the difference. Indeed, a study from LinkedIn shows 69% of respondents think their skills are more important than on-paper qualifications. That’s why LinkedIn has now introduced Skill Assessments. This new feature gives users looking for work the ability to showcase their skills and help them highlight those skills. As the job market becomes increasingly competitive, LinkedIn will help users stand out by assessing their skills for them through a panel of experts. Users with top skills will receive an official verification badge that can be showed on profiles in LinkedIn Jobs and LinkedIn Recruiter. According to LinkedIn’s blog post, skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office and Photoshop.
Improving Skills
It is worth noting that Skill Assessments can be kept private, ideal for users who perhaps don’t receive the badge. LinkedIn says it will provide learning courses for free to help users improve their skills. The company says the most in-demand assessments will become available in the coming weeks. “We will be rolling out in-demand assessments globally that you can choose from, spanning from coding languages like C++, to design software like Adobe Photoshop, to everyday business tools like Microsoft Excel. We plan to keep expanding our Skill Assessment portfolio to help you show off your skills and unlock more opportunities.”
