A new benchmark points to an unknown Surface device running Intel’s latest generation Ice Lake CPU. Some reports are suggesting this is not the Surface Book 3 but could be a new Surface Laptop that will launch later this year. The question is, what is Microsoft working on? There’s certainly no reason it could not be the Surface Book 3. Either way, it seems the company is developing a Surface product with an Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor that clocks at 3.7GHz (turbo boost to 4.8Ghz). According to the benchmark, the device features a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 1536×1024 screen. Elsewhere, it is running Windows 10 version 2004 and has 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM. While all this is interesting, there is no official proof that this benchmark is the real deal or just a fake listing.
Surface Book 3?
One reason why many people think this benchmark is for a Surface Laptop is because benchmarks for the upcoming Surface Book 3 have featured more stacked hardware. For example, a recent benchmark showed a device running an Intel Core i7-1065G7 CPU and an NVIDIA GTX 1650 Max Q GPU. Perhaps the latest benchmark is for a lower model in the Surface Book 3 range? That makes sense considering Microsoft updated the Surface Laptop to its third generation last November.
